The comments from yesterday's post were great and they got me all fired up. I was going to give you all a heads up about an opportunity to be on a new show with Rachel Ray first thing today (it is my Friday Free For All prerogative) but first, let me address the comments. You must read this part to get to the Rachel Ray part. It is not an option. God, being bossy can be such fun.
1. Beth whined that it was too hard to control her camera's flash. Well Beth, time to pull out the reserves and give it another try. Take a 1/2 hour all to yourself and figure out the way to manually turn your flash on and off. If you work it all out before you "need" to do it, you'll be poised and ready and a lot less frustrated. I'll betcha it's not as tough as you might make it out to be. JUST DO IT and it will become second nature. I promise it's worth the effort. Anything new (especially a new camera) takes some getting used to.
2. K. said she's got that blasted auto flash thing popping up all the time. A problem many of us have. Should she let it ride and trust the auto flash thingy? My rule is usually NO. I usually break the auto-flash rule. I use it when it says not to and I almost always turn it off when it says to use it. You can only trust your camera's auto stuff sometimes. With the flash, I rarely do. Here's my motto-you ready? KNOW YOUR CAMERA, TRUST YOURSELF. Which leads me to the next comment...
3. Annette's comment wins the most resourceful category. She said she tries taking a few of each. See, when you know how to turn the flash on and off, you can do that. I DO IT! It works. That's the beauty of the digi camera. You can see how thing look as you go. It's really the greatest tool you could have and if you use it, your photography WILL IMPROVE. Start paying attention to what you are doing with your camera and what the end result is and you'll begin to recognize when to do what and what gets the best results from your camera.
4. Rebecca's comment that stated my tips are "the best"-ClubMom, did you hear that??? Thanks Rebecca, you made my day.
Note-some of the comments today were by moms who are using Digi SLRs (the fancy stuff) and those work a bit differently than the Point and Shoots. If there are specific questions regarding your specific camera, you can post them in the comments or email me. And as promised, next week I'll be turning on the flash under the most surprising circumstances. Just because I can.
NOW, to the good stuff. I promised Rachel Ray and I'll deliver. Connecting Moms is in cahoots with the people that are doing the new Rachel Ray show and they're doing some kind of mom casting call. So, here's what you gotta do. Go visit Connecting Moms and become a member. They are a super cool mom's site where you have your own page and you can send and receive mail, post photos, network, read and participate in mom discussions and all that good stuff. And then on top of it, the founder, Shell, is all connected in Hollywood and has TV stuff working for the Connecting Moms Community. That's where the Rachel Ray stuff comes in. So, what are you waiting for, go join the fun. And give Rachel (and Shell) my love.
