Kay, you know how I said I was queen of the head croppers? Well, I kinda thought, since it sounds so scary, that I would post of few examples. You know, as to ease your mind a little.
This one is what I'd call a "tight crop". It's where I'm cropping out a lot of what was going on around my subject. Besides losing the head, you get in so close you remove anything distracting from the images and get an intimate feel. I even cut he the poor dears ear in half. Hmm. Maybe I do have some issues. Regardless, it's a pretty picture, ain't it?
And click over to Flickr and look at this fine image where the cropping of this picture is perfectly wonderful. Top of head? Gone. But it's ALL GOOD.
Another image over there in our group that works under this category is this playful delight. See what I mean? Who needs the head when you got a sweet face??

OK, I just posted a close-up photo. It's in the pool and the reply to the cropped thread. :-)

I just added a cropped photo to the pool too. It's called BW-Jammies.
Thanks!

I just posted a cropped photo in the "Cropped" discussion thread in the pool.
Thanks - it's nice to know that my habit of cropping heads is acceptable!

My question: Often when I crop, the resulting image is grainy or less clearly focused -- how do I avoid that? Any thoughts?

I love the cropping thing! I know I can do that!

Elizabeth, are you cropping as you shoot or after the fact in your camera or on you computer? That might help me answer your question.
