SInce summer is all about family and friends, Togetherness was a popular category. 69 entries worth. Whoa. Talk about your tough decisions! When I opted to look at all of them in slide show mode I found myself smiling the whole time going, "awww, OOh, cuuuuute". I was cracking myself up. Because there were so many entries, I chose two winners and 4 honorable mentions. I couldn't friggin' help myself!
First, I bring you this adorable image by apeetsmom which just screams summer fun and TOGETHERNESS. I'm especially fond of the random cropping. It gives it such a great, unexpected flair. And the subject matter of the girls swim team thing gives me goose bumps. I love the whole feeling of this shot!
And this shot, submitted by honey07652 was such a unique entry, I just loved it. This shadow self portrait shot is so nicely done, so simple, sweet, and summery. A worthy winner of the category as well.
CONGRATS TO YOU BOTH! Well done. And now for the Honorable Mentions...
How on earth can you resist this 4th of July gem? Not only are these kids adorable, there is some intangible here that makes me want to get up and sing the Star Spangled Banner. I swear, this is just one fantastic shot by monamegs. Great angle too, shooting up at them. They look larger than life. SO full of excitement and energy. Such fun.
This is one of those images that gets me right here. The tenderness and stillness in this shot submitted by meandscreech is palpable. A stolen moment of being together that makes life sweet. And the ethereal nature of the background and the black and white add to it's mystery. Just an all-around lovely photograph. Forgive the quality and size here. I couldn't get it posted here quite right. Please check it out over at Flickr and see it in it's true glory.
This shot was one that I kept coming back to because of it's compelling quality, the angle especially. The way it was taken, it's almost like you're not supposed to be seeing this exchange between mother and daughter. It's an everyday moment that they are sharing that's so intimate somehow. It just feels important. I think what draws me to it is the kind of snapshot vibe it has that's crossed with a meaningful content. Am I making any sense here? Maybe you have to study the shot to get it. I really love it. Just something about it and it's interpretation of togetherness that is interesting and really sweet. Thanks wbsercessa for sharing it. Again, there is something lost in this translation so I hope you can click over to see it at Flickr.
And look at this one! How cute is this?? As much as I love the tiniest kitten in the world, I love more the unique quality of this shot. The angle, the composition, this darling girl's personality jumping out at you. It's one of those shots that gives you the warm fuzzies. And it's artsy to boot. You can't go wrong with that combo. Awesome shot faramiria!
Wow. What great images everyone!!

WOW! It feels GREAT to come back from vacation to see that I was a winner! I took this shot one evening when my husband and daughter and i were running around the yard. We also took a few shots of our shadow against our fence, but I think the grass gave it a really nice feel.

Thanks for the honorable mention. My husband actually took the shot one day when we were at the pool with our son. It was pretty warm out that day, but in the shade, after swimming, it was kind of cool. So to keep my son warm, I wrapped him up in my towel, and we cuddled like that for a long time.
