On our trip to Florida we visited the Metro Zoo in Miami. There were no traditional cages. Just lot of open space with wild animals roaming around and as you walk the grounds, it gives you the illusion that you are just kin of roaming around with them. It was pretty cool. Except it wasn't really cool at all. It was like 98 degrees with 100 humidity which just about kills a person's ability to enjoy anything. Ug. However, we braved it anyway and to our surprise, the animals were active just the same. it was pretty awesome.
So, in case you didn't know this about me, I have a real thing for primates.
Especially Mountain Gorillas. In this case there was a viewing window that offered shade for the gorillas so a few were sitting together right there on the other side of the window. Wow. There was a female and the silver back. Holy Primate! They were enormous and sooooo incredible beautiful. Having a gorilla a mere 3 feet away for you, looking right into your eyes is an incredible experience. In nearly 100 degree heat, the family wasn't nearly as taken as I was. I could have sat there all day (even dripping sweat) just watching them and snapping photos.
Even through a thick (and filthy) window I got some pretty neat shots.
What did you capture this week that has you captivated?

How fun! The monkeys and gorillas are always one of my favorite parts of going to the zoo...great shots!
Here's my best shot for the week:

I love the Gorilla photo. The look on his face is so stern and thought provoking.
I'm really excited about my shots, this week. My hubby gave me some photo taking advice and I think it worked!

You are so spoiled with the socal weather...all heat, little humidity. We did FL last year while I was pregnant and I thought I would die! I love both shots. I can't even pick a favorite. Very cool. Who doesn't like primates?
Here's my BSM:

I'll bet you were just screaming for someone to clean the window real quick, or just let you in for one shot! He has a very human expression!!
I live in GA, so I feel your pain with the heat!!
Here's my little monkey...

That's one thing our zoo is lacking, the big apes. They are so cool.

I love the zoo and "ours" is open with no cages. It's an awesome visit. The gorilla is beautiful and looks so pensive.
I was captivated by a light...

Oh wow, I love both shots! That sounds like a very nice (albeit hot!) zoo. One of the zoos here is rather small and there isn't much roaming room for the poor animals.
Well, my daughter captivated me again...

What a terrific zoo! We made a trip to the zoo about a month ago and I had all these ideas of capturing these amazing wildlife shots...well, that didn't happen with a one year old in tow and I didn't get a single one! So I'm impressed with your monkey shots - especially that second one!

Why, oh why don't zoos clean their windows more? Obviously, people come there to see what's behind them. You still got some great shots, though!

I spent several hours one day back in college observing and recording the actions of gorillas and other primates. It was really interesting. It was for a class about Human Evolution, believe it or not!
My post is up this morning!
