There seem to be two types of people in the world, those who love trees and those who see them and think of cracked drains and shifting foundations (my mother is one of the latter). In South Australia we have a law about 'significant trees'. If a tree measures more than 1.5m in circumference a metre above the ground, it is protected by law and cannot be removed without a council permit and a jolly good reason (usually bushfire related). I hate the feeling of powerlessness as someone hacks away at their 'property' but essentially destroys what belongs to us all.
