It wouldn't be October without a trip to Oktoberfest. This year we went with a bunch of friends and did it up family style. I sat on the edge of the dance floor with my camera in my lap (yes, in my lap) and I just shot whatever I thought looked interesting without looking through the view finder. I was photographer incognito and got some really funny shots.
I have a ton more and like this one they make it very obvious that I was shooting from my lap but come on but sometimes it's more important to do the chicken dance than anything else.
Did you shoot anything from the hip this week? You can answer that literally or figuratively. It's up to you.

i can totally relate to this post and love it. all the ones i took yesterday in my bsm were shot from the hip. i was determined not to miss the day (chicken dance) just to get a few photos. love what you got! here's mine.

What an interesting idea. Sort of like shooting from the hip, but not. :)

No picture for you but just wanted to let you know we are home and safe, and I hope that all the other Californians that were affected are okay. Please let me know if you need any help!

I have those types of shots - I love them! Shooting incognito at youth events works great!
We are sick, sick, sick, here! I'm over it! So here is our best shot - maybe...

I love how you can take a shot like that and it is still so cool, I do those kind of photos all the time but normally b/c I am ALSO trying to get one kid or the other to smile and it never works out for us :) This week I had to post about my girl's costumes b/c of Halloween.

I finally had enough time to sort through pictures and found this:

I like the idea of shooting without looking, and then seeing what you wind up with. Especially when you're taking pictures of kids.

I saw this shot and immediately had one of my shots from this weekend come to mind.

I sometimes shoot from the hip. I should do it more often, especially when my favorite subject gets tired of being photographed as she is here.

I love the lap photo shots, don't you! When you're a parent you'll do almost anything. Here's my shot this week: http://sgphoto.typepad.com/my_weblog/2007/10/best-shot-mon-3.html

It's not so much from the hip and held above my head. I took about 30 shots of the twins nursing and just hoped that one of them would come out.
